Vienna Microscope for Quanum Materials (VMQM)

2023–2025

The VMQM project provides funds for a new scanning transmission electron microscope that reflects the current development projects in the area of electron microscopy. It will enable the study of quantum mechanical quasiparticle excitations and interactions with unprecedented accuracy, imaging of charge densities, electric and magnetic fields, and super-resolution microscopy in combination with correlative measurements with other instruments in the same system. VMQM will become a world-leading showcase instrument for the study of solid-state quantum systems, including their generation, manipulation and study at the atomic level.
