Van der Waals-encapsulated materials

Encapsulation allows exotic 2D structures in room temperature.

Two-dimensional (2D) material substrates and encapsulation allows growing exotic 2D structures, such as a fullerene monolayer, 2D noble gas clusters, 2D metal-halide structures (e.g. CuI) and 2D CuAu. These materials are stabilized either by van der Waals interaction with the substrate, or by chemically impermeable and inert 2D material layers on both sides of the encapsulated structure.
