Crack-stimulated twinning

- Abstract
Stress fields due to cracks may trigger the development of twins. A micromechanical study is presented for the mechanical driving force and the dimensions of the generated twin. A twinning condition calculating driving and dragging forces is expressed within the framework of stress intensity factors and applied to nano- and micrograins.
